Ayurveda Methods To Improve Eye Sights Of Children And Adult
Eye is the most important among the sense organs. In ayurveda eyes is called as chakshurindriya. It’s important to keep the eyes healthy. The common eye problems that usually occur in all ages are dry eyes, refractive errors, eye disorders. Ayurveda explains about different local treatments to improve the eyes health and eye sight are as follows:
Nasya – it is the administration of medicine through the nasal route, which is advised in all type of udrwajathru roga , the disease that affects above the neck. Nasya can be administered with the medicine which is cold in potency.
Netra seka – which is beneficial in condition such as dry eyes, where the medicated decoction is being poured in the closed eye from a certain height for a stipulated time. Usually, triphala decoction is used.
Netra tarpana– its procedure, where the ghrita is being poured and pooled in a certain ring and done for a stipulated time. Triphala ghrita is being used, it helps to improve the eye sight, preventing cataract.
Bidalaka-Application of medicated paste over the eyelids without involving the eyelashes. It’s done for the inflammatory condition.
Pindi– a traditional treatment, which involves different herbal medicines, prepared as an small bolus with cloth and applied over the eyes. It helps to remove the eye strain, improve the vision, clarity of the eyes. Promote relaxation of the muscles.
Anjana– its collyrium, herbal eyeliner, which is of 3 types: drishtiprasadana, lekhana, and ropana. Regular use of Anjana will improve one’s vision. Application of Anjana is by keep the eyelids wide open and with the help of left hand we have to apply the Anjana from the sides to inwards.
Pada abhyanaga – its that which improve the eyesight, massaging over the points based on reflexology. Common oils used are ksheerabala , tila taila. According to vagbata there are 4 important nerves that is connected to the head, by massaging over these points it can improve the eyesight. It’s advised in computer vision syndrome, dry eyes, myopia etc.
In children
Eye disease, about 20% of children below 18 is affected by eye problems. Some of the common eye disorders are refractive errors which include myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism. In which myopia is more common. Amblyopia, convergence insufficiency, paediatric cataract, Binocular vision dysfunction. Squint. Now a days due to the increased screen time also cause the vision disability in children in the early ages.
The ayurvedic treatment that helps to improve mainly vision problems in children are ;
Tarapana– its an ayurvedic therapy where the ghee is poured and pooled in a specific shape for a stipulated time. which is nourishing and relives dryness of the eyes .
Putapaka-similar that of tarpana but herbal juices or ghee is used, which help for reduce inflammation also help to soothens the irritated muscles. Squint is common in children. It can be treated by these methods.
Nasyam -administration of herbal medicines in to the nose.
Diet and lifestyle
• It includes those food items which is rich in Vit A, amla, triphala.
• Vata pacifying diet is advised, which are warm, moist, easily digestible.
• Foods such as almonds, fennel, sugar(rock), honey,
• Wearing sunglasses while exposure to bright light.
• Adequate rest to the muscles of eyes.
• Enough sleep
• Eye exercises which include focusing, convergence practising, accommodation exercises.
Yoga and exercises
• Tradana – concentrating exercise, which improves the clarity of vision.
• Bhramari pranayama – improves all the sense organs and reduces the eye pressure.
• Sarvangasana- it increases the blood flow into the eyes.
