Migraine Treatment in Ayurveda : Home Remedies & Ayurvedic Medicine
Migraine is one of the common problems that people face all the time. Recurrent headaches with symptom free intervals are seen in these cases. In Ayurveda – this is known in the term of ‘Suryavarta’ . Surya means Sun, Migraine shows its progress with the movement of Sun. Pains mostly in the forehead, temple region, eyes & brows , commence with sunrise and slowly increase along with the movement of the sun and subside by sunset. This disease is formed by the combination of all the three doshas especially by provocation of Pitha.

● Intermittent throbbing headache – occipital headache

Ayurvedic Treatments & Medicines for Migraine
● Nasya : Nasal medication with Anu taila, or dry ginger grinded with warm milk can also be used. Put 2 drops in each nostril daily.
●Dhoomapana : Spread dry powder of dry ginger,long pepper, cardamom, cinnamon,camphor & nagakesara in a linen cloth piece with sesame oil and make a wick. Burn it and inhale the smoke through one nostril & exhale through the mouth. Repeat in the other nostril.
● Panchakarma treatment for migraine : Nasya, Vamana & Virechana are the best detoxification & effective treatment for Migraine. Physicians use it as per the dosha dominance.
● Lepana/Paste application : Kachooradi choorna mix with buttermilk and apply on forehead. Ksheerabala ‘101’ 3 drops can be applied on the vertex.
● Oil application for head : Asanavilwadi oil is the best hair oil to be used for people with Kapha issues like migraine ,cold, cough, headache etc.
● Medicines : Varanadi kashaya with Yogaraja guggulu is one of the best combination for the headache.
Diet for Migraine
Avoid – all heavy, oily food items, fermented items, spicy, sour , salty and sweet items, fasting,stress and over exercises .
Include : Green gram, horse gram, moringa leaves, garlic , apple in empty
stomach.
Yoga/ Pranayama techniques for Migraine
Pranayama – Nadisudhi pranayama, Kapalabhati Asanas – Shashangasana, Matsyasana, Sarvangasana, Makarasana, Sheershasana, Savasana
Home remedies :
● Ginger juice & honey mixture use as nasal drops.
● Saute Datura seeds in sesame oil and apply on forehead
● Apply paste of Cardomom seeds,sandal, dry ginger over forehead.
● Apply mint leaf paste on forehead
● Drink the milk boiled with black gram
● Dry goose berry paste or coriander leaf paste with milk apply on
forehead
● Keep onion paste on sole and wrap with cloth piece.
