Ayurveda considers sex as one of the natural urges. Our immune system and the flow of vital energy, or ojas in Ayurveda, are closely linked to sex and the way we behave around it. The best way to speak concerning ojas is as vitality, or the capacity to live and thrive while maintaining a strong physique. Bright eyes, shiny hair, beautiful skin, an efficient immune system, a cheerful, balanced perspective on life, mental clarity, and compassion are all signs of excellent health when Ojas is abundant in the body. A person with decreased Ojas will, on the other hand, exhibit symptoms such as dry skin, chilly hands and/or feet, low immunity, constipation, anxiety, pain (of any kind), mental stagnation, negativity, and exhaustion. Important vata dosha as the “apana vayu” also influences a person’s sexual energy. It alludes to one of the five winds that make up our body, which is located in the lower body. Menstruation, reproduction, and even orgasm is regulated by apana vayu. When this vayu moves in a healthy way, it maintains our sense of belonging.
Ideal time for sex
Different energies are dominant at different times of the day, as Ayurveda recognises. According to the day and night the natural variations of dosha is also happening. This knowledge of the energies of day and night may guide our daily activities and lifestyle, which are sustained throughout the day. This also applies to sex.
Usually, sex during the natural pitta aggravation time is not indicated in ayurveda, that is around 10 am -2pm. It can cause dhathu depletion.
Ideal time to have sex is between 4-7am or 8-10 pm which is the time for vata and kapha aggravation.
Season
Because your reproductive fluids and the water element are more plentiful throughout these seasons, sexual activity is most effective during Kapha’s dominance in the winter and spring. During these cooler seasons, when kapha energy is naturally abundant, nature is also strengthening shukra in our vessels. From an energy standpoint, this is also thought to be the ideal moment to become pregnant.
Early and late winter are the healthiest seasons of the year, so if you want to, you may experience sexual closeness every day. It’s also good for your general health. This is because during these seasons, the body’s Kapha, or earth and water characteristics, are at their peak.
Sex can occur as frequently as once every few days throughout the spring and autumn seasons when health is modest.
Reproductive vitality is at its lowest during the summer and rainy seasons, when sexual activity is more draining due to Pitta and Vata energy dominance. It is advised to have intercourse once every two weeks during these times to prevent your shukra, or sexual essence, from being too diminished.
It is absolutely advised to take tonics and rasayana herbal formulations in greater dosages to help your health maintenance if you are having frequent intercourse at “inappropriate times” than is typically advised for most individuals.
Age
Dosha has remarkable impact on us as we become older. This indicates that as we age, it’s normal for our desire and frequency of sexual activity to vary.
During the Kapha stage of childhood, preferably until a few years after puberty or, for women, the start of menstruation, there should be no sexual activity. However, we may enjoy our most frequent sex at the period when we are transitioning from Kapha, or childhood blooming, into becoming a young lady or a young man. This is approximately between the ages of 18 and 25.
We can have moderate frequency of sex during middle age, when we are in the Pitta age of life. As we enter the Vata phase of life, less frequent sex is seen as a natural occurrence.
In order to maintain the body’s essential shukra, or sexual essence, it is best to refrain while entering the Vata phase of life, which begins after menopause or after the age of 70.
Food and sex
Milk and milk products are said to boost energy and male fertility in Ayurveda. Sesame seeds and lentils increase the fertility of females.
